Rural Family and Business Emergency Preparedness Expo
October 7, Underwood, Washington
October 21, Goldendale, Washington

It's never too soon, but it can be too late to be ready and aware of emergencies that may affect our rural communities and our families. Fire, earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, ice storms and more do happen here in the Gorge. The train derailment in Mosier, Oregon in 2016 showed how vulnerable our transportation system is to traffic bottlenecks and how critical our bridges are.
In partnership with Community Enrichment for Klickitat and Skamania Counties (CEKC), SKCN will be presenting The Rural Family and Business Preparedness Expo on October 7th in Underwood, WA at the Underwood Community Center and October 21st at the Goldendale Grange in Goldendale, WA.  Both events are free and will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Rural Family and Business Preparedness Expo will focus on five critical areas often affected by a disaster, especially in rural regions: Food, water, communication, fuel and transportation. Emergency responders, amateur radio operators, hospitals, public health agencies, PUD's, energy companies, transit services, veterinarians and more will be providing information to help families understand the importance of knowing what to do before and after an emergency.  Post disaster scam prevention, protecting important family documents, coping skills to help survive traumatic stress, making a family emergency plan, pets and livestock care and more will be covered as well. A number of first aid kits will be provided to families in attendance.
Booth space will be provided at no charge for service providers. Sponsorships are available for $25, with the proceeds going towards the purchase of supplies for the emergency kits.
